Ferragamo celebtrates 80th birthday with a soiree in Shanghai

December 6, 2008

Iconic fashion house Salvatore Ferragamo has long been known for it’s commitment to Italian craftsmanship. Based in Florence, Italy, Ferragamo celebrated it’s 80th anniversary in a reproduction of the original palazzo in Shanghai, according to The Guardian.

The Shanghai shin-dig included a fashion show and two performances by ballet dancer Roberto Bolle, as well as an extensive display of shoe designs made famous by the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Lady Diana. Click for seattlepi.com’s fashion show slide show.

Italy Magazine adds, “Ferruccio Ferragamo - one of the five children of founder Salvatore who now run the Florence-based company - said that Shanghai was the ”perfect place” for the birthday bash.”

You weren’t able to make it to Shanghai? Nordstrom has stocked their virtual shelves with several Ferragamo styles. The “Varina” — originally introduced in 1978 as the “Vara” — is an iconic Ferragamo flat, in glossy patent leather with a signature grosgrain bow and logo-embossed buckle. $395 at Nordstrom.com

in today’s manchester evening news.co.uk, louboutin was the topic of conversation. it follows a certain accessories sales manager, Jayne Christensen, and her thought on the designer and his shoes.

“Buying shoes is an emotion, it’s as simple as that. As long as they make you look gorgeous and feel good that’s the most important thing - they put a smile on your face,” offers Sebastian Maines, director for accessories at Selfridges. Louboutin’s are currently Selfridges’ best-selling designer shoe, with more than 40 pairs being snapped up each week.

Gotta have flats - tips on how to wear them well

December 6, 2008

according to meredith blake for nydailynews.com the world is flat. “At least in terms of this season’s most fashionable footwear.” factors that go into picking just the right pair, according to lucky magazine’s fashion editor, hope greenberg, “…color, the exact shape, how much toe you’re showing, and what you’re wearing them with.”

the marketplace is flat out full of options. one collaboration to note is that of Eileen Shields for Zero + Maria Cornejo. eileen shields has energetically marched her designs down the runway shows at ZERO + MARIA CORNEJO and right into stores… case in point the Zero Haircalf Slash Vamp Flat. see shuzsociety’s exclusive video interview with eileen shields herself.

Snakeskin-esque sandal from boutique 9

December 6, 2008

it’s friday lady. you just got paid. AND YOU ARE GOING OUT! but you’re reconciling that extra dough you spent on your daughter’s dance wear, the haute hat you had to have from wednesday’s accessory sale, and the dinner you bought the dog sitter… oooohhhh!! you will look fantastic tonight but you’ll wear “the look” for less.

stephinitely’s shuzmuse tipped me off on boutique 9, a contemporary little line of shoes that are well-priced and with their nod to high-end designs are stylish to boot. available at nine west, www.heels.com and Piperlime, among others, most strappy sandals and pumps are priced under $150.

this pair from boutique 9, “boden” is a snakeskin-esque asymetrical sandal in this season’s black and gold combo. dress them up with your slinkiest of dresses or pair them with some cute shorts. girl, you will be fine tonight, and at $143 you haven’t broken the bank. and when your daughter steps out of her dancing shoes and into these, you don’t have to worry sooooo much. check them out, and the rest of the boutique 9 collection at Zappos.com

Sneakers with pizazz…

December 6, 2008

i remember my first Van’s circa 1980-something. they were the classic checker-board variety that EVERYBODY else had too! got word from a bird about this fun, limited-edition, accessories collaboration “Places in the Sky” between harkrider fine arts and british painter Anthony John Gray. so they’re not quite ready yet… but they will be!!!

gray, best known for his his large geometric installation works created in oils, alkyds, and acrylics on canvas and panels, describes his work as spritual logic. we’re showing you the shoes, but they’re planning to add handbags and scarves soon.

harkrider fine arts director, Isobella Jade, says of the accessories, “being a lover of shoes and accessories, the moment I saw tony’s oil paintings I knew there was a commercial element I wanted to explore. I love that tony’s geometric surrealism translates into apparel so well. the architectural balance of colors and patterns and the symbolic meaning behind his work creates a unique bridge between the arts and fashion worlds.”

with only 50 pairs of each style being created they’ll be available in exclusive boutiques, and will retail for $500 each. check out their site under “retail” for details. and stay tuned for the second set of styles.
