I heart rupert sanderson for making the “xanadu!”
December 5, 2008

while surfing the internets for shuzsociety’s june “shoes of the day,” i found this pair by rupert sanderson appropriately named “Xanadu.” seems i just can’t escape references to this little movie. as a girl, i wanted to be Olivia’s “kira,” especially in those glowing slouchy boots she wore on the album cover. she was angelic. a muse to many.
as an adult, i’ve seen the movie again and was at the opening night it made its way on broadway. yes, the movie kind of stinks and the play was way campy. but back then i was mesmerized by its special effects and rockin’ jazzy soundtrack. it was then the ultimate skate flick. besides, i kind of had a crush on “sonny” with his frayed denim cut-off shorts and long, tube-socked legs. i have no idea!
net-a-porter is having a hot little sale on their “Xanadu” studded mirrored metallic T-bar sandals with 100mm heel. they were $740 but now they’re $370. get this, they come with an extra studded T-bar in black… this for you ladies who prefer the naughtier Oliva in Grease, when she’s painted in leather pants and rubbing up on Travolta.

Sex & the city’s vanessa noel “croc boots” on ebay
December 5, 2008
June 9th, 2008
we mentioned in an earlier blog an opportunity for you to own the shoes Kim Catrall wore in the fashion week scene in sex and the city the move. shoe designer and nantucket hotel owner vanessa noel created a select few pairs of stretch crocodile above-the-knee boots, they were also worn in ralph rucci’s couture runway show in paris. but only ONE was worn by Kim Catrall and they can be yours for $30K unless that is… you are outbid.
a description: “These boots are a size 39 in genuine black tanned Louisiana alligator. They are hand made in Milan, Italy and the stretch alligator process was created by Vanessa Noel. These boots DO NOT CONTAIN a zipper or any other fastener, they were designed to be fitted and stretch over the knee. The alligator skin is put through a very delicate tanning process in the tannery in which the skin actually shrinks and thus enables the perfect stretch fit for any leg type including strong calves. The Kim boot retails at our flagship store for $24,000 US dollars. This auction includes the actual box and the bag with the original “Sex and the City” costume department label. The TOTAL length of the boot is 25.5 inches high, with a 3.5 inch heel.”
we’ve included a guerilla pic of their current window. and should you wish to bid on the boots, check out vanessa noel’s ebay page.
Phil LaDuca ~Broadway’s shoe-designer to the stars!

LaDuca shoes.
you may not know it, but you’ve seen this man’s shoes. he’s been making them for some of broadway’s brightest stars for more than a decade. think we’re kidding? the shoes of Phil LaDuca have starred in Wicked, Chicago, The Producers, Mamma Mia and Hairspray. they’ve even danced their way on the feet, via the world famous legs, of “The Rockettes” in Radio City Christmas Spectacular. we’ll get to his celebrity roster shortly.
yes, Phil LaDuca, noted former Broadway dancer and choreographer, and quite possibly the undisputed king of Broadway dance and movie musical shoes, is finally breaking into high fashion with his newest line, LADUCA. “They reflect the fun and spontaneity of LaDuca’s theatrically inspired designs,” offers Leslie Riddle, an ex Rockette and footwear industry professional, who has partnered with Phil LaDuca for this venture.
shuzsociety had a chance to meet up with Phil and Leslie in Vegas, where they debuted their collection at The World Shoe Association. we needed to see for ourselves what the fuss was about. the collection is tight. there’s not a ton of fuss, or a lot of muss, his designs are specifically deliberate. LaDuca offers the first flexible character shoe. each shoe, handmade in italy, originates in theatrical design and incorporates Poron® and antibacterial memory foam. as we fondled each of his shoes, we could “feel” the difference. the first collection offers platforms, polk-a-dots, and beautiful metallics. this one fire-engine red metallic peep-toe pump with golden piping, OOOOMMMMGGG! it. is. simply. stunning.
another pair, below, he specifically made for Bette. yes, THAT first-name-basis Bette… Bette Midler with her “showgirl must go on” vegas act. his shoes are a favorite of other leading ladies too: Catherine Zeta-Jones, Uma Thurman, Meryl Streep, Brooke Shields, and so on. his non-fussy space off 9th avenue (between 39th and 40th), in manhattan allows his clientele easy access to his custom designs.
phil was happy to show us around, happy to answer our questions. “I’ve always been a rebel,” he adds, “I make elegant shoes for real women who have to keep their heels on all night long!” as we hug and say our goodbyes, Phil smiles and says, “I’m having fun ladies, I’m having fun!”

Dallas’ own LINUS LOUNGE received a veritable avalanche of web activity with recent post “shoe lover opens shoe lounge” in Canadian Press. The article also appeared on The Star Press and Seattle Times, to name but a few.
With an impeccably edited collection of stunning shoes, Linus Lounge provides a brief respite from the hustle of Dallas’ nearby shopping venues. The shoes are grouped together on shelves which sit in front of mirrored walls, or proudly displayed low coffee table. Owner Kristen Radovich has great taste in furnishings, too!
This fall, she offers the casual chic styles of Banfi Zambrelli, wildly interesting wares from Brazilian designer Franziska Hübener and Serbian-born shoe designer Dusica Sacks of Dusica Dusica.
