gil carvalho’s shoes are at gregory’s, dallas

December 7, 2008

we interviewed shoe designer Gil Carvalho — listen to the way HE says it — about some of his favorite shoe styles for fall 2008. the side note to our fun little video is that Gil is a real GEM and i don’t know if it translates on video.

we arrived into his busy showroom in vegas and gave him a few minutes to freshen-up before the camera started rolling. he emerged from his make-shift parlor with sky-high, cherry red belted square-toe heels, the kind he’s becoming famous for. teeter-free he made a bee-line right over to our spot and gave us a genuine, shoe-centric interview. thanks gil.

we found the dynamite “shadow” patent platform pump at gregory’s shoes in dallas. if you’ve not heard of gregory’s, they carry styles from top shoe designers: christian dior, helmut lang, lanvin, jerome rousseau, luciano padovan and jimmy choo to name but a select few. and if you want your own “shadow” we say get them in a hurry.

Kylie Minogue hits Georgina Goodman Old Bond Street locale

December 6, 2008

Got a quick note from our friends at Georgina Goodman that Kylie Minogue (though, they sent us simply “Kylie” — first name basis, you know!) sauntered into their Old Bond Street store and bought 5 pairs of extra-ordinary shoes!

“Such a lovely girl… she even posed for pictures with our Store Staff, loving the shoes, kicking her feet in the air and thrilled with the discovery of her “new favourite shoe designer,” offers Bjorg, Georgina Goodman’s International Sales and Marketing Manager.

Recently featured in WWD Accessories, for her fancy cut-out bootie, she also finds time to design shoes for both Alexander McQueen and Italian fashion label Casadei. About her collaborations, Georgina tells WWD, “I love it. It gives me the opportunity to express myself in new and totally different arenas.”

Indeed it seems opening the new store in Old Bond Street is having the desired result in terms of profile, positioning and awareness amongst the fashion glitterati and pubs.

Angie Harmon glowing in Jimmy Choo “Gwen”

December 6, 2008

Angie Harmon recently showed her glowing glamor at the Vogue and Step Up Women’s Network fashion event. The event was also attended by Garcell Beauvais, Joy Bryant, Alexandra von Furstenberg, and Shiva Rose.

Angie stepped out wearing the mirrored Jimmy Choo “Gwen” with it’s rear zipper detail and 4 1/2″ heel.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Rupert Sanderson’s “KitKat”

December 6, 2008

During the great Presidential election, JustJared exposed Gwyneth Paltrow’s dress at the Two Lovers premier in Paris. While you might have been side swiped by her Antonio Berardi dress, we want to know if you saw her shoes?!

We did!!! And they are none other than Rupert Sanderson’s “KitKat” two-toned ankle bootie.

We LOVE the shoes. You can get them at Linus Lounge — the swanky Dallas boutique famous for it’s finely edited collection of designers no other Big D retailers dare to carry.

Penelope Cruz wears LaDuca shoes in musical NINE

December 6, 2008

When we last visited with shoe designer Phil LaDuca he was busy opening his new shoe store in Manhattan, in the heart of the theater district.

This week, in the midst of NY’s FFANY shoe shoe, he sends us an image of his “Penelope”—the “fall 09 shoe based on the shoe Colleen Atwood, costume designer, and I did for Penelope Cruz for the movie, NINE, currently being filmed in London.” The e-Word is Rob Marshall’s film is going to be HUGE! And with a cast of starlets: Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Marion Coutilard, Judith Dench, Kate Hudson, Fergie and Sophia Loren it just may be.

Into the Closet

December 6, 2008

BY Elfya Van Muylem - shuzsociety.com

you have your shoes all over the floor, underneath, inside and on top of your closet? Are your sandals and flip flops still thrown in some forgotten beach bag? And whatever happened to those Christian Leboutins that you bought for a wedding and would wear for the next gala evening?

I know, I know, why would you want to be spending money on shoe storage if you can spend money on an extra pair of shoes? The answer to that question is - if you don’t see your shoes, you won’t wear them and you will end up spending more money on shoes that you most probably had a similar pair of already.

So let’s put a plan together by which you will know exactly which shoes you have and an easy way to access them.

Step 1

Re-assess, then donate. If you have not worn your shoes for over a year, it might be that they are just “not you” any longer. Donate them to a worthy cause as www.soles4souls.org . Not only will you create extra space in your closet, you will make a substantial difference in someone’s life.

Step 2

Pare down your shoes and divide them by season and style. For instance sort your summer and winter shoes separately. Divide your day shoes, sport shoes and evening shoes.

Step 3

Think about the shoes that you will wear more often and store them where they are easily accessible. Extendible shoe racks that you can either put on the floor or on a shelf are an ideal solution. They expand from 24″ to 44″; a single rack accommodates up to 13 pairs of women’s shoes and 9 pairs of men’s.

Step 4

Get shoe racks that can be stacked. You never know how many more shoes you will get over the years. Go to www.containerstore.com

Step 5

You most probably won’t be wearing your evening shoes every day; put them in clear plastic boxes on the top shelves. Use boxes that can be stacked. Put the shoes that you will wear the least in the bottom box but always make sure you can see them www.clear-shoe-boxes.com

An alternative is to use the existing shoeboxes and put a Polaroid of your shoes on the front of the box.

Step 6

Use the extra vertical space in your closet and maximize your closet’s storage potential with the hanging canvas shoe rack. It attaches to any size closet rod with a Velcro fastener and is an ideal solution to store your sneakers, flip flops and sandals

Step 7

Use adjustable boot shapers to prevent your boots from falling over, creasing, cracking or bagging – www.containerstore.com

An economical alternative to keep your boots in shape is to stuff them with socks or crumpled brown bags

back into the closet

December 6, 2008

With fall’s arrival, it’s seriously time to stick away summer’s sandals, and pull out the boots and cooler-weather wares. Now that you’ve reassessed your collection and have donated the undesirables (you DID donate, didn’t you?), you’re ready to reorganize. shuzsociety has compiled a list of goodies from the storage guru’s at StacksandStacks.com to help you set up your fantastic closet for fall.

good things in small packages A pretty, yet practical, solution for your shoes comes in the form of a collapsible nylon box. Each stackable box will store a pair of your favorite shoes with a quaint little window for you to view them – ALL the time. At $18 a pop, snag several boxes to beautify your closet in a hurry. Bonus, you’ll save a dollar on the Polaroid pic you won’t have to tape on
