Banfi Zambrelli

Silvano Banfi was born into a shoe making family in Milan, and by an early age was working with some of the finest houses in Europe. By the time he was 18, he was designing and producing footwear for the likes of Gucci, Bally, Lario & Gianni Versace. After leaving the prestigious ARS Sutoria Institute, he arrived in the U.S. in 1994, honing his talent with Calvin klein, Banana Republic and Coach. At Coach he met Frank Zambrelli, where they collectively launched the brand’s very successful extention into footwear. In 2003, they joined forces once again to pursue a more personal vision of how beautiful shoes should be made.

Frank Zambrelli was headed for medical school when a trip to the European shows radically altered his plans. Heading instead to the Fashion Institute of Technology, he graduated with a dream job at Chanel. John Varvatos, then Cole Haan gave him his next big break, the opportunity to perfect his craft in Europe, Asia and the U.S. His tenure led him to Coach, and the successful launch of the venerable firm’s foray into footwear.

Connecting with Silvano they realized they shared similar design views and a sincere interest in the art of shoemaking, and vowed to someday begin their own studio. In 2003, in a remarkably tiny storefront in midtown Manhattan, Banfi Zambrelli was born.

A native to New York City, Monica Botkier delved into the fashion industry in 2003. Working as a fashion photographer shooting for magazines such as Surface and Mademoiselle. “I design the shoes to meet the hidden urges of strong women with particular tastes and extraordinary desires,” says Claudio Merazzi, Owner and creative director behind the luxury Italian shoe line CLAUDIO MERAZZI srl based in Milan, Italy. “With a sensual fusion, the feet are hugged by his shoes, like a lover to a soul mate. After concluding his artistic studies at the University in 1980 he spent his early years collaborating with the globally known footwear designers Bruno Magli and Casadei. The EILEEN SHIELDS label was launched in February 2004 and has continued to grow exponentially each season. The label is sold at more than 40 high-end boutiques and department stores across the US, Europe, and Asia - and EILEEN SHIELDS is a featured designer at Harvey Nichols in London, Dublin and Edinburgh.

Born in New York, Eileen Shields grew up in Dublin, Ireland, and graduated from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin. She has been living and working in New York since 1988 and was, for more than a decade, footwear designer for Donna Karan. Eileen was a key player in launching and building the DKNY footwear line, including Men’s and Women’s, and was responsible for the innovative D by DKNY line, nominated for Best New Line at the VH1 Fashion Awards.

The EILEEN SHIELDS label is a transatlantic venture - Eileen opened her own flagship store and gallery, ‘5 Scarlet Row’ in the Old City district of Dublin in September 2004. 5 Scarlet Row was created in collaboration with renowned curator/gallerist Vaari Claffey and is the flagship store to showcase the entire EILEEN SHIELDS collection. Her collections have received highly favorable press including features in British Vogue, Elle Magazine, Nylon, Oprah, and Real Simple among many others.
