The Art of the Shoe at Linus Lounge

December 8, 2008

Since October 2006, Uptown Dallas has been home to the uber-chic footwear parlor, Linus Lounge.

ince October 2006, Uptown Dallas has been home to the uber-chic footwear parlor, Linus Lounge. Housed upstairs in a converted two-story brick building, Linus feels like home. Wood floors, natural lighting and carefully edited furniture and fixtures showcase some of the area’s most exclusive footwear. “If you’re in Linus, you are nowhere else is Dallas,” explains shop proprietor Kristen Radakovich of the choicey designers she features. The same could be said for the experience while there.

How’d she get in the biz? Having lived in the affluent Marble Arch area of London, and completing instruction at the Mackay School of Fashion and Accessory Design, Radakovich had her epiphany.

What is Art of the Shoe? Based on the concept that footwear is typically delivered during the spring and fall shopping seasons, Radakovich opens her seasonal store during select hours and days of the week. Want a glimpse at another time? The rest is by appointment. Feel special now?

Boutique Mantra: Radakovich explains, “the shoes are meant to be the art, let them speak.” With special attention to her seasonal lineup, only a few shoes, in varied sizes, are available in each style. The catch? You have to get ‘em while they’re hot!

Who you’ll find… Technologically engineered footwear by Ruthie Davis, elegant Les Tropéziennes, Dusica Dusica, Barbara Bui, Italian-made Banfi Zambrelli and London-based Scorah Pattullo. And check out her vintage handbag collection too!

Who loves her, baby? The August 2007 Southern Living issue gave her a page, and a mention in the March issue. Footwear News and D Magazine, among others, also gave the boutique kudos in their spring issues.

Who else loves her? The myriad of ladies who turn to her for undeniably stylish shoes each season. They know what they’ll find there won’t be seen anywhere in town.

Side Gig: Trained as a pastry chef, Radakovich is also at the helm of a catering consulting business, tucked into in the same shoe space. It enables her to pursue both her passions. Now, that’s a sweet deal.

As I watched the scenes in “Sex and the City: The Movie” showing “Carrie’s” re-decorated, highly styled apartment– complete with designer pillows–I thought she would have LOVED THESE pillows from shoe-artist, Rita Pearl Lerman. Newly available, her latest collection of shoe-art is now available on two sizes of pillows to welcome guests into your home with style. My FAVORITE is this “Red on Red” back view of a sexy stilletto… check out Rita Pearl Collection for more pillows and her other art for shoe-lovers

5-inches is the new black - heels rise to new heights

December 5, 2008

5-Inches Is. The. New. Black.

It was just a year ago that shoe designer Christian Louboutin and filmmaker slash photographer David Lynch paired for a captivating collaboration celebrating our footwear “Fetish”, with a handful of one-of-a-kind extreme, arguably erotic shoes. Then we saw the towering “IT” shoe, the Yves Saint Laurent Tribute sandal with its sculpted and tapered platform sole flaunting an attitude as bad as the heel was high. Innovative shoe designers from Nicholas Kirkwood to Gil Carvalho went vertically voluminous on us.

We knew it wouldn’t be long before our (other!) favorite shoe designers would rise to the occasion to give us more of what we want. One doesn’t even have to worry, “do these make me look like a stripper?” That’s kind of the point. And it’s totally hip. From 4” heels to 5″ plus (plus!) shoe designers are letting us be naughty little good girls. And they’re tempting us with decadent leathers in polished patents and metal hues, and carving the heels up in mouth-watering shapes. Here come our favorite fifteen…

See the rest of our sky-high shoes in the “5″ is the New Black” trend gallery!

Yves Saint Laurent black patent mid-calf boots narrowly make the 5” cut, but their strong toe-box and stiletto heel affords one a wicked, sultry attitude. Concealed platform under a 4 ½” heel with blue sole. Black. $915

Barney’s New York- Las Vegas

December 31, 1969

More than just lucky, Barney’s seventh location proves spectacular; a high gloss white stone interior and circular staircase practically usher one upstairs to the second-floor shoe salon. Indeed, the true star power lies within the glamorous 4,400-square-feet devoted exclusively to women’s shoes! Unlike their New York counter-part, this location houses all their footwear brands in one well-planned department—with high-end shoe designers at the front, by the window into the shoppes, and Barneys Co-Op a little further back. It has a nice flow. They have the Barney’s Vegas exclusive on marvelous Balenciaga, Azzedine Alaia, Lanvin, and Givenchy. And, you’ll find the staples—in a precisely edited selection—Christian Louboutin, the maestro Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo! Located in The Shoppes at The Palazzo, Barneys New York serves as the 85,000-square-foot anchor and flagship store of the 450,000 square-foot retail complex.
